Stories: Personal, Small Business + Product Branding
Eight years ago, when I was just getting off the ground as a photographer, I swore up and down I would never photograph a wedding. It wasn't in my wheelhouse, it was too stressful, I wasn't good enough, (insert other internal monologues here). Now, with 50+ weddings under my belt, it's one of my favorite things to do. I also struggled early on with head shots, because they felt forced and uncomfortable. It soon became clear standard head shots aren't the norm anymore: Social media has completely changed the game when it comes to marketing yourself! I now get excited to help fellow creatives and business owners put their most authentic foot forward.
And with personal marketing comes product photography. Again, I thought it wasn't something worth pursuing. Little did I know, I was already doing it in my own way every time I took a detail shot at a wedding or event. Being part of The Big Fake Wedding last year definitely solidified this for me, as I was able to take photos for my own portfolio while also helping other business owners rep their services and products.
Long story short, I've always had a fear of veering out of my lane. For me, that meant taking photos of anything other than people under my own brand, because how could I possibly put my mark on anything like that?
Turns out, I can and it's so, so much fun!
Because the beauty in marketing yourself, your business or your product, is that you get to choose how to do it. And I've had the privilege of working with some awesome creatives in the past year who want something that feels more real than the branding packages of years past.
I'm sharing this because, although I've posted a couple of photos on Insta, this is definitely a new venture for me. It's extended my creative circle in amazing ways as well and I just can't wait to keep it up.
